Tumandok Apparel

Background and Rationale

The Suludnon are a culturally indigenous Visayan tribe that live in the mountainous regions of Capiz-Lambunao and Antique-Iloilo in Panay in the Visayan islands of the Philippines. They are also referred to as Panay-Bukidnon, Pan-ayanon, or Tumandok.

They originally shared a culture with the Kinaray-a, Aklanon, and Hiligaynon language speakers, who all live in the lowlands of Panay. However, due to their seclusion from Spanish authority, their pre-Hispanic culture and beliefs have persisted.

Description of Product

Tumandok Apparel aims to preserve Panay Bukidnon's culture by integrating their rich culture through their vibrant patterns woven onto clothes. By blending indigenous craft techniques with contemporary designs we bring Panay Bukidnon's aesthetic and culture to our consumer's wardrobes.

Benefits to Stakeholders

The Sulud/Panay Bukidnon currently confront a variety of obstacles that come with their survival, despite the local governments of Panay undertaking several initiatives that help the preservation of their culture. Any profits made by this business will be used to maintain and build cultural institutions that will help to preserve Tumandok history and culture. The inclusion of ethnic groups in mainstream fashion will be made possible by contemporary designs on apparel.

Value Proposition

Our goal is to share with our customers the original Panay Bukidnon designs and craftsmanship in each and every article of clothing we make. This would support the communities of Panay Bukidnon in maintaining a sustainable standard of living while passing on and teaching their weaving traditions to the next generation.
